Blue Ribbon Fashion Show A fashion show held at The Grand, Clitheroe on May 1st raised £3800 for The Ethiopia Cold Chain Project thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and the 120 guests who attended the event. Lu Lu Browns, Velvet and Posh U exhibited the clothes and shoes. Cheryl Hook of Melt provided goodie bags for everyone. Paul Smith sponsored the champagne reception and styled the model’s hair. Flowers were donated by The Flower Shop and food by Cheesie Tschaikovsky and Coco Moyo. Entertainment on the night was provided by Bowland High School who did a fantastic job, lighting up the stage with their singing and dancing. Thank you to everyone concerned who made the evening such a huge success. Blue Ribbon Calendar Following on from the success of our schools competition we decided to produce a calendar designed by local school children. Whilst it is important to raise funds for Unicef we feel that is also important to raise awareness of the work that this organisation does and to involve the community, including children, with our projects. We visited six primary schools, talking about Unicef and asked the children to draw pictures - we selected the best pieces of artwork to feature in our calendar and the children whose work was selected received a prize. Ginger Pumpkin once again sponsored the art-work for us. Thank you to Guy Purves for this contribution. The sale of calendars raised £4500 for the Ethiopia Cold Chain Project. 600 calendars were sold and donations were received from Brookside school and many individuals. Thank you to all the outlets who sold calendars and to everyone who bought a calendar. A special thank you goes to every child who took part in our competition and who made it possible for us to raise such a wonderful total through this venture.
Lizi Botham from Crafastic heped inspire the children to produce some great pictures. We couldn’t have done this without them! To see the winning pictures click here On October 27th 2007 we held a musical evening at The Centenaries Theatre, Stonyhurst. There was a varied programme and the concert was a huge success and raised £2,500. DONATION to UNICEF
THREE PEAKS WALK
BLUE RIBBON BALL In May 2007 we held the Blue Ribbon Ball at the Dunkenhalgh hotel, Clayton-Le-Moors. The event was attended by over 300 people and was a huge success. With sponsorships, ticket sales a prize draw and an auction we raised a fantastic £31000. Our major sponsors are listed on this site . However we also received a huge amount of support from countless other people – too numerous to mention and we would like to say thank-you to everyone of them. We hope to hold another ball in May 2009. Photos of the event can be found on www.malkinphotography.co.uk CASTLE MEDICAL GROUP The Castle Medical Group in Clitheroe have raised £6,737.46. They started their year of fundraising for Unicef with some of the doctors doing a sponsored bike ride –see below. They ended it with 40 members of the practice taking part in a sponsored walk across the sands of Morecambe Bay in July 2007. This event alone raised £2000! The practice organized various other events during the year and the Blue Ribbon Committee would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff and patients who have contributed to the success of this initiative. We would like to say a special thank you to Dr Martin Flatley and the practice fund-raising committee for all their hard work. Chris Walmsley, who has now retired from the practice, was wonderfully supportive of this venture – she too deserves our thanks. We wish the practice well with their future fund-raising. BLUE RIBBONS Blue ribbons went on sale in various places last year including schools, churches and local shops. They sold for £1 each and raised £2000, a further boost to The Ethiopia Cold Chain Project. £1 will help to fund 25 imminisations. Ribbons will be on sale again in coming months.. SPONSORED SKY-DIVE
SCHOOL & CHURCH SUPPORT Ribblesdale School, Clitheroe raised a fantastic £900 for Unicef. Pupils did this by holding assemblies to tell the school about the Ethiopia Cold Chain Project and by sale of blue ribbons and other fund-raising activities . Thank you to everyone concerned. DESIGN A COVER FOR THE BALL BROCHURE UNICEF is about ‘all the world’s children’. We thought it would be nice to include local children in planning for The Blue Ribbon Ball. With this in mind we designed a competition specifically for primary school children. Six Ribble Valley schools entered the competition .We went to speak to pupils to tell them about the work that UNICEF does and to explain specifically about The Cold Chain project. We also explained why it is important to raise funds for children who until now have not been able to be vaccinated against common childhood illnesses. We selected a winner from each of the six schools that took part and chose an overall winner who had their design printed on the front cover of the ball brochure that was handed out to our 300 guests on the night of the ball. Prizes were presented by local sculptor Clare Bigger on 22nd November at the Winter 06 Fashion Show organised by Lee Carter. Overall winner Lucy Cayton from St Leonard's C of E Primary School in Langho received a camera which was kindly sponsored by Boots the Chemist in Clitheroe. The winning entries can be seen by clicking on the links below. They were displayed at Dyson's Art Shop, Moor Lane, in Clitheroe, who kindly agreed to frame the best entry from each of the six schools – the pictures were then presented to the children to keep. WINTER 06 FASHION SHOW SPONSORED SKY-DIVE Dr David Bailey of Thursby Surgery, Burnley, raised £950 through sponsorship from patients after he successfully completed a tandem sky-dive on the 26th November 2006. This money, together with funds raised from a ceilidh earlier in the year, and donations given to UNICEF in lieu of presents for Mr Ian Kendal's 60th birthday has gone to purchase a roundabout water pump at a cost of £3,450. This pump is used in rural areas of Africa and obtains energy from children playing on the roundabout which helps to deliver clean water to the community. Thank you to everybody concerned in this project . For those of you that really can't believe that Dr Bailey did this - click on this link to look. MOUNTAIN BIKING in UTAH
