Unicef Haiti Appeal

Despite reports in the media of aid not getting through to Haiti, several planes with UNICEF supplies have already arrived at the airport in Port-au-Prince, the first on Wednesday, with more on their way. Further cargo was flown to the Dominican Republic last night and is being transported overland to Port-au-Prince. Further pre-positioned supplies are also being sent from the Dubai warehouse with WFP tomorrow. In the first instance UNICEF is providing supplies for clean water, sanitation and basic health care to meet people's immediate needs.

Conditions are very difficult, with limited access to the affected area. There has been massive damage - building, roads and other crucial infrastructure has been destroyed and debris is blocking many of the roads. There is no water supply and most communications are down. However, wherever possible UNICEF supplies are being distributed. UNICEF has already helped to provide clean water and food to 4,000 people seeking shelter at an airport in Jacmel city which has also been badly affected.

Any help you can give will be really appreciated.
